Standings criteria and tiebreakers explained
Points, head-to-head, score difference, Buchholz, Sonneborn-Berger, sets and more.
How ranking works
Standings are sorted by the primary Rank by setting (tournament points by default) and then by an ordered list of tiebreak criteria. Edit both in Settings → Standings & scoring. Criteria are applied in order until the tie is broken.
Available criteria
- Points — win/draw/loss points (configurable, e.g. 3-1-0).
- Wins — number of matches won.
- Head-to-head — results between the tied participants only (points, then difference, then scored).
- Score difference — scored minus conceded (goal difference, point differential).
- Score for / against — total scored, or fewest conceded.
- Sets won / set difference — for set-based sports.
- Buchholz / Median Buchholz — sum of opponents’ scores (Swiss).
- Sonneborn-Berger — sum of defeated opponents’ scores plus half of drawn opponents’ scores (Swiss).
- Net run rate — cricket.
- Fair play — fewer disciplinary points rank higher.
- Draw of lots — a recorded random tiebreak as the last resort.
